My Stint as a Lake Geneva Mail Jumper

Last month found me in beautiful Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, researching the setting for my upcoming novel, currently operating under the working title of Mailboat. I truly did not want to go home! After all, how many times does an author get to walk around in her own story world?

Tons of thanks to the Lake Geneva Cruise Line and the City of Lake Geneva Police Department for the tours and job shadowing. You helped bring my novel to life, and I can’t wait to visit again.

  1. Danielle,

I enjoyed your video immensely. I’m so proud of you for stepping outside your comfort zone to make this trip AND actually do the mail jumping. Sign me up for a copy of Mailboat.

    • Thanks, Carrie! I’m so glad I made this trip. Not only will it really bring my story world to life — I also had an amazing time and met a lot of really great people. I think I left a little bit of me in Lake Geneva.

  2. Way to go, Danielle! Super job on the video, though I was a teeny bit disappointed you didn’t make a splash at least once! Can hardly wait for your book to publish!

    • Thank you, Steph! Yeah, I ought to have missed the boat at least once. You know. Research. Find out what it’s really like to fall into the lake, and all that. In my defense … it was kinda cold that day. 🙂

  3. Wow! That looks like a blast!

And, oh, it brings back some memories… I lived on a tiny island with a population of 7 for 5 years. Our mail came once a week in a rubber raft. Often the pages of my magazines would be stuck together! (I got pretty good at un-sticking them, though.)

Anyway, your research trip looks like so much fun! I’m excited to hear more about your novel as it progresses. 🙂

I’m popping by from the #StoryDam chat linky. Hope you can make it tonight at 8pmET. We’re talking about using #StumbleUpon & how it can boost traffic to your blog! 🙂

    • Hi, Tui! Good to see you. You lived on an island? With seven people? Wait … Gilligan’s Island? WOW!!!

I’m sorry I missed #StoryDam tonight! Hopefully I’ll catch you guys next week!

  4. p.s. You did a GREAT job on that video, too! What sort of software did you use? I am so impressed! I’m inspired, too, since I’ve been wanting to take the plunge into creating videos…

    • Windows Live Movie Maker. It was a freebie already installed on my laptop. For a lot of the backgrounds and photo editing, I used PicMonkey. Making videos is fun! Give it a try!
