So, I’ve been nominated by CJS Writing via her Darling, You Should Be Writing blog and Carrie Lynn Lewis over at her blog, as well.

Only I don’t have to pour ice over my head. (Ashamed to say I’m relieved about that. It’s getting cold around here.)

This nomination is for the One Lovely Blog Award. I’d be really curious to know who got it started, because it’s pretty cool.

  1. A blogger gets nominated.
  2. Said blogger must write a post listing seven things about him- or herself that their readers might not know.
  3. Said blogger must then list and link to–a.k.a. “nominate”–fifteen favorite blogs.
  4. These nominated bloggers can choose to participate and pass along the One Lovely Blog Award.

And that’s where any vague similarity to the Ice Bucket Challenge ends–because, as I understand it, you must either dump ice over your head, or suffer eternal shame. But participation in the One Lovely Blog Award is entirely voluntary.

The neat part is … YOU, the reader, get to discover new blogs hand-picked by your favorite bloggers!

Seven Things About Me

We’ll get the narcissism out of the way.

  1. I learned how to read and write when I was four years old because I was jealous of my older brother.
  2. I decided to become a professional writer when I was seven. Before that, I was merely dabbling.
  3. I play Irish music on the banjo.
  4. My favorite season is fall/winter. Except when it’s summer. Spring in North Dakota means wind and mud.
  5. I used to work for my local humane society. One dog and one cat later, I still volunteer there.
  6. My dream house would be a tiny log cabin in the middle of nowhere. With horses. And the dog. And the cat.
  7. My dog and I recently hiked 3 1/2 miles in 50 minutes … counting a break to let her go swimming in the river. I think that’s a record for us.

Blogs I Love

Okay, now it’s time to share the love! I confess, I don’t read as many blogs as I want to read, but according to the rules of the One Lovely Blog Award, if you don’t have fifteen favorite blogs, then just list the ones you do have. So here are the ones I enjoy. Bloggers, consider yourselves nominated:

  1. The Graveyard Shift by Lee Lofland. Lee spent his career as a cop and as a trainer training cops. Now he’s a writer training writers about cops. This is my absolute favorite blog.
  2. Lindsay Buroker’s Blog by (who else?) Lindsay Buroker. She’s my hero when it comes to the new age of indie authors. She’s making her living indie publishing her novels and her blog is full of great advice for anyone trying to follow in her footsteps.
  3. Carrie Lynn Lewis’s Blog by Carrie Lynn Lewis. I confess. She’s my partner in crime writing. But more than that, I’m crazy about her stories!
  4. Stranded by Don and Stephanie Prichard. Their first novel is being published here in serial, and will be available as an ebook in November. (So proud of you, Steph!)

Okay, THAT was a pathetically SHORT list. I thought I could do better. But aside from this list, I enjoy checking Google News for current true crime stories. And that doesn’t count as a blog.

Thank you, CJSWriting and Carrie, for the nomination. And may the One Lovely Blog Award keep going around!
